Ahn Gil-ho, the director of the popular Korean revenge drama “The Glory,” has issued an apology for his involvement in a fight during his stay in the Philippines over two decades ago, according to a recent report.
Bullying allegations against Ahn began to surface online ahead of the March 10 premiere of the second part of “The Glory.” The director was accused of threatening and assaulting a group of students who teased his then-girlfriend while he was studying in the Philippines in 1996. Ahn denied the accusations at the time, but his lawyer has now confirmed that he did hurt someone during his stay in the country.
In a new statement, Ahn’s lawyer explained that “when [Ahn Gil-ho] heard that his girlfriend became subject to teasing at school due to him, he momentarily got emotional and gave another person an unforgettable wound.” The director has expressed deep regret and asks for forgiveness from those who were hurt by the incident. If given the chance, Ahn would like to apologize personally to the person he hurt, either by meeting them in person or talking on the phone.
“The Glory,” which stars Song Hye-kyo, tells the story of a school violence victim seeking revenge on her former bullies. The show’s first half premiered last December and is currently the top TV show on Netflix Philippines.
