Mayonnaise, one of the well-loved Original Pilipino Music (OPM) bands in the Philippines, recently released a new album that showcases a mix of unreleased treasures, revamped favorites, and surprises spanning from 2009 to 2025. The album launch took place on April 17 at the 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub in Makati City, where the band performed select tracks to the delight of their loyal fans.
The energy during the album launch was described as raw, real, and deeply emotional, especially during the live debut of the album’s flagship song, “Live Your Life.” This particular track quickly became a fan favorite not only for its catchy and reflective sound but also for the message of self-acceptance and inner peace that it conveys. Creators Ana Coting and Gandang Morenx were deeply moved by the song, sharing how it resonated with their own stories of self-love, authenticity, and reclaiming one’s voice.
Despite not having a major original release since mid-2024, Mayonnaise never stopped performing and creating music. According to one of the band members, Monty, recording, releasing, and playing shows are all integral parts of what they do as a band. The new album, titled “B-sides & Rarities, Vol. II,” is not just a collection of songs but a time capsule that captures the band’s evolution over the years.
Featuring a mix of covers, remastered tracks, and fresh takes, the album includes everything from Rico J. Puno classics to a new version of “You Can’t Be Right,” featuring Mikki Jill. Mayonnaise blended sessions from various studios and spaces to create a cohesive album that showcases their guitar-driven rock sound while also experimenting with new sounds and effects.
While their core sound remains raw, emotional, and guitar-forward, Mayonnaise is not afraid to explore new musical territories. The band’s willingness to experiment, collaborate, and evolve their sound has led to a more mature and textured musical style that resonates with fans both locally and internationally.
In addition to their musical evolution, Mayonnaise is also embracing digital marketing, global streaming, and fan engagement to reach a wider audience. Their upcoming shows in Tokyo, Canada, and Australia demonstrate that OPM music is no longer confined by geographical boundaries but has become a universal vibe that transcends borders.
As Monty aptly puts it, Mayonnaise is simply a band with three guitars, one bass, and a drummer, but their music and passion for creating meaningful songs have made them a standout act in the OPM scene. Their latest album is a testament to their growth as artists and their commitment to producing music that is both familiar and innovative.
In a music landscape that is constantly evolving, Mayonnaise continues to push boundaries, challenge conventions, and inspire fans with their unique sound and heartfelt lyrics. Their latest album is a reflection of their journey as a band and a celebration of their enduring legacy in the Philippine music industry.
