After serving 18 months, Jin, the eldest member of BTS, has officially completed his mandatory military service in South Korea. The 31-year-old singer is the first member of the popular K-pop group to finish his military duties since enlisting in December 2022. BTS’ agency, Big Hit Music, made the announcement of Jin’s discharge via Weverse, urging fans not to visit the site to avoid overcrowding.
Media outlets in Korea gathered outside the military site to capture Jin’s exit. Videos from Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) showed Jin hugging his fellow soldiers before walking out, saluting, and posing for cameras. He was greeted by his group members, who are also in the military, with a bouquet of flowers and a saxophone rendition of BTS’ hit song “Dynamite” by their leader, RM.
In October 2022, Jin and the other BTS members held a free concert in Busan, South Korea, called “Yet to Come,” in support of the city’s bid for the 2030 World Expo. Following the concert, Big Hit Music announced that all seven members would fulfill their military service, emphasizing the group’s dedication to serving their country.
Before enlisting, Jin released a solo single titled “The Astronaut” and assured fans in a video message that he would return to work hard soon. BTS is expected to reunite as a full group in 2025, once all members have completed their military service.
