Filipino music icon Ely Buendia recently surprised attendees at a sleepover event in a furniture store in Singapore by performing lullaby versions of Eraserheads songs in his pajamas. The event, called Pajama Weekend, was organized by Ikea Pasay City, the store’s largest branch in the world, as part of a sleep campaign promoting better sleeping habits.
Buendia, known for his role as the frontman of the iconic Filipino rock band Eraserheads, took the stage with a microphone and guitar in his comfortable sleepwear, marking his first performance in such a relaxed setting. The singer-songwriter humorously commented on the unique experience, saying, “There’s a first time for everything. This is my first time playing with a bed in the background, wearing pajamas. This must be how Ben&Ben feels.”
During his performance, Buendia treated the audience to slower, more soothing renditions of Eraserheads classics such as “Ligaya,” “Alapaap,” “Minsan,” “With A Smile,” and “Kailan.” He also performed the band’s hit song “Pare Ko” along with his latest single, “Bulaklak sa Buwan,” which is part of his upcoming album “Method Adaptor” set to be released the following month.
“Method Adaptor” will be Buendia’s second solo album, following his debut solo release “Wanted Deadspacer” in 2000, over two decades ago. After the album launch, the singer will reunite with his Eraserheads bandmates Buddy Zabala, Raymund Marasigan, and Marcus Adoro for the continuation of the band’s “Huling El Bimbo” world tour.
The Eraserheads, one of the most influential bands in Philippine music history, have been thrilling fans around the world with their reunion tour, which includes stops in various countries. Adding to the excitement, the band recently announced new tour dates in New Zealand and Australia, much to the delight of their international fan base.
In addition to Buendia’s performance, the event also featured other musical acts, including JK Labajo who shared insights on nostalgia in his song “Kunwari” at the Asiya 2024 event. Fans can also look forward to upcoming concerts by South Border and Ella May Saison scheduled for November, promising more memorable musical experiences for Filipino music enthusiasts.
Buendia’s unexpected performance at the sleepover event in Singapore not only showcased his versatility as a musician but also underscored the enduring popularity of Eraserheads’ timeless hits. With new music on the horizon and a highly anticipated reunion tour with his bandmates, Ely Buendia continues to captivate audiences with his musical prowess and innovative approach to performance.
