The prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame welcomed a new batch of inductees in a star-studded concert gala held in Cleveland, Ohio. Among this year’s honorees were music icons Cher, Mary J. Blige, and Ozzy Osbourne, who were formally introduced into the music pantheon alongside Kool & the Gang, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, A Tribe Called Quest, and Peter Frampton.
The ceremony also recognized Big Mama Thornton, Alexis Korner, and John Mayall for their “musical influence,” while Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick, and Norman Whitfield were awarded for “musical excellence.” Suzanne de Passe, a trailblazer for women executives in the music industry, received the award for non-performing industry professionals for her groundbreaking work in Motown.
The evening kicked off with a performance by Dua Lipa, who sang “Believe” before being joined onstage by Cher to finish the 1998 hit. In her acceptance speech, Cher humorously remarked on the difficulties of getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, comparing it to getting divorced from two men. She also highlighted the impact of “Believe” as the first song to use auto-tune technology as an instrument, claiming that she changed the sound of music forever.
Other performers at the event included Kelly Clarkson, Sammy Hagar, Slash, and Demi Lovato, who all appeared for Foreigner. A special collaboration took place with Queen Latifah, De La Soul, and Busta Rhymes performing alongside the surviving members of A Tribe Called Quest – Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Jarobi White.
The 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony showcased the diversity and influence of the honorees, celebrating their contributions to the music industry. The event brought together music legends from various genres and eras, highlighting the lasting impact of their work on the world of rock and roll.
As the night came to a close, the inductees and performers received standing ovations from the audience, recognizing their achievements and talent. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continues to honor the legacy of iconic musicians, ensuring that their music lives on for generations to come.
