Netflix unveiled the first images of the upcoming documentary series “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” on Tuesday, August 6. The series will showcase behind-the-scenes footage from “The Debut: Dream Academy,” which created the girl group KATSEYE, featuring Filipino member Sophia Laforteza.
The documentary will chronicle the journey of the original 20 contestants vying for a spot in the global girl group. The contestants came from various countries such as the US, Japan, Brazil, Switzerland, South Korea, and Argentina, among others.
Netflix also released a one-minute trailer on Monday, August 5, giving a glimpse of the intense training the contestants underwent at “The Debut: Dream Academy.” The trailer includes brief interviews with some of the contestants.
Directed by Nadia Hallgren, known for her work on the award-winning Michelle Obama documentary “Becoming,” “Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE” is produced by HYBE, Interscope Films, and Boardwalk Pictures. The documentary series will consist of eight episodes, each running for 50 minutes, and is scheduled to premiere on August 21.
In addition to the documentary series, KATSEYE will be releasing its first EP titled “SIS (Soft Is Strong)” on August 16. The global girl group made their debut on June 28 with the single “Debut,” featuring members Lara, Sophia, Yoonchae, Megan, Daniela, and Manon.
Sophia Laforteza, the Filipina member, was the first to secure a spot in the KATSEYE lineup. Fans can look forward to experiencing their journey and successes through the documentary series.
