Alyssa Milano is paying tribute to Shannen Doherty.
“It’s no secret that Shannen and I had a complicated relationship, but at its core was someone I deeply respected and was in awe of,” Milano, 51, said in a statement to Us Weekly on Sunday, July 14. “She was a talented actress, beloved by many and the world is less without her. My condolences to all who loved her.”
Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano, alongside Holly Marie Combs, rose to fame portraying the magical Halliwell sisters in the hit series “Charmed” (1998-2006). However, Doherty’s departure after season 3 became a source of controversy.
Recent tensions resurfaced in December 2023 when Doherty and Combs (now both 50) alleged on Doherty’s podcast that Milano was the reason behind her firing. Combs claimed producers felt forced to choose after Milano threatened a lawsuit over a hostile work environment.
Milano responded at a February convention, expressing sadness for the fans and the show’s legacy being tainted by the decades-long negativity.
Milano expressed frustration that the cast couldn’t move on, especially considering her own healing journey. She emphasized working through past traumas “to be a healed person that helps heal people.” On social media, Milano refuted having the power to fire Doherty and lamented the cast’s negativity after so much time had passed.
Through tears, Doherty emphasized the importance of truth, especially while battling a serious illness. She denied the accusations of on-set drama, calling it a “trauma” she endured for a long time. Doherty linked her decision to speak out to her cancer battle, stating a desire to heal from the loss of a livelihood she believes was taken due to another actress’s desire for top billing.
