Music enthusiasts in the Philippines have reason to celebrate as the renowned music, arts, and culture festival Fête de la Musique Philippines is set to make a grand return with a “multi-stage, multi-genre, and multi-day celebration.” Originating in France in 1982, the festival made its debut in the Philippines 14 years later, and is now celebrated in over 1,000 cities worldwide.
During the festival’s media launch on June 6, organizers revealed that the 30th edition of Fête de la Musique aims to exceed expectations in terms of production scale and social impact. This news is sure to excite both long-time festival attendees and first-timers alike.
To mark three decades of Fête de la Musique in the Philippines, attendees can look forward to over 40 pocket stages and 70 destination stages this year. Pocket stages, introduced in 2011, feature curated lineups showcasing established and upcoming talents across various music subcultures. These pocket stages will be held simultaneously on June 28 in and around Makati City, particularly in the vibrant Poblacion district during the barangay fiesta.
The festival promises a diverse range of genres at the pocket stages, catering to all music fans. From blue soul funk, emo, reggae, Latin, New Wave, ska, rock, and more, attendees are in for a treat as they immerse themselves in the music and community vibes.
In 2017, Fête de la Musique PH expanded its reach with destination stages in Baguio and Palawan, shining a spotlight on burgeoning music scenes. This year, the festival will extend its festivities to more parts of the Philippines from June 21 to 29, with some destinations hosting subculture-specific pocket stages.
Luzon’s destination stages include El Nido, Naga, Baguio, Pampanga, Puerto Galera, Baler, Los Baños, Albay, Zambales, Laguna, Marikina, Cavite, Bacoor, and Masbate. Cebu and Siquijor will serve as the two destinations in Visayas, while Mindanao will feature destination stages in Cagayan De Oro, Davao, Siargao, and South Cotabato.
Fête de la Musique PH kicks off with the Pre-Fête Sunset Gathering, highlighting the healing power of music through a Medicine Music Circle, Ecstatic Dance, and Sound Bath on June 16 at Ayala Triangle Gardens. The festival also collaborates with SONIK Philippines for SONIK SESSIONS FETE, an industry-focused conference discussing music’s role in cultural cooperation, environmental change, and sustainability, scheduled for June 22 at The Astbury in Poblacion, Makati City.
The festival lineup includes both emerging and established local artists who will grace the pocket and destination stages nationwide. Acts like Janine, Leanne & Naara, Kate Torralba, Syd Hartha, Cheats, and Unique Salonga are among the exciting performers to watch out for. The main event will take place on June 21 at Greenbelt 3 Park in Makati City, featuring local artists and the French electronica duo Pfel & Greem of C2C.
Fête de la Musique not only celebrates music but also strengthens the bond between France and the Philippines by promoting their shared love for music and live performances. The festival provides a platform for musicians to connect, collaborate, and appreciate each other’s craft in a supportive community setting.
Presented by Alliance Française de Manille in collaboration with the Embassy of France to the Philippines, B-Side Productions, and Funkybeat Entertainment, Fête de la Musique PH promises an unforgettable experience for music enthusiasts across the country.
