Netflix has quietly canceled the animated series “My Dad the Bounty Hunter” after two seasons and 19 episodes. Speculation arose on social media about the show’s return after its second season debuted in August 2023. The cancellation was first noted by What’s on Netflix.
“My Dad the Bounty Hunter” was co-created by Pixar veteran Everett Downing Jr. and Patrick Harpin. The show follows two kids who discover that their father is an intergalactic bounty hunter. The series features Laz Alonso, Yvonne Orji, Priah Ferguson, and JeCobi Swain in the central family roles, with additional voices provided by Yvette Nicole Brown, Jamie Chung, Rob Riggle, and Maddie Taylor.
Despite decent viewing numbers, “My Dad the Bounty Hunter” has been canceled by Netflix. The show made it to the streamer’s global top 10 for English-language series after season two premiered and was among Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series twice. Viewing figures for the two seasons totaled 86.5 million hours and 26.7 million hours, respectively.
Netflix has been scaling back on original programming for kids and families in recent years. The streamer has ended several live-action and animated series, including “Ada Twist, Scientist,” “Ridley Jones,” and “Spirit Rangers.” Other shows aimed at older audiences, like “Oddballs,” “Maya and the Three,” and “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” have also been discontinued. Now, “My Dad the Bounty Hunter” joins the list of canceled shows.
