Inspirations and Approaches to Music
When asked about his inspiration to become a pianist, Ralph credited God for inspiring him to study formal music. He approaches learning a new piece of music by first listening to it, and then sight-reading the music piece. Ralph’s approach to handling mistakes during a performance is to leave them behind and not dwell on them. He also prays before a performance to deal with nerves and remind himself that this is his chance to give his best.

Balancing Technical Proficiency and Musical Expression
Ralph balances technical proficiency with musical expression by adopting a 50/50 approach. He believes that both technical skills and heart are equally important. He selects pieces that he feels and wants to play based on the emotions and feel of the song, with the aim of connecting with his audience. His favorite piece to perform is “Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” which he plays differently each time, feeling something new each time he plays it.
Collaborating and Advice for Aspiring Pianists
Ralph is a team player who enjoys collaborating with other musicians, from whom he learns a great deal. He advises aspiring pianists to set goals, know their purpose, practice diligently, and above all, love their music.
