Director Jon M. Chu has treated fans with sneak peeks of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the highly-anticipated film adaptation of “Wicked.” The images reveal Grande as Glinda and Erivo as Elphaba in full costume on the Enchanted Land of Oz set in Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom.

“Wicked” is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” narrating the unexpected friendship between Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, also known as the Good Witch. The musical takes audiences through the events that happened before Dorothy’s journey down the yellow brick road, including the origin of the Wicked Witch’s iconic pointed hat.
The original 2003 musical of “Wicked” starred Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth in the lead roles. Kristin Chenoweth played Glinda, which earned her a Tony Award nomination. The show remains one of Broadway’s most well-known and long-running productions.
The first part of the “Wicked” movie is set to hit theaters on November 27, 2024, with the second part to follow on December 25, 2025.
